making progress in flash

December 7, 2009

Since its nearly impossible to embed flash into wordpress -_- i am just going to link to the swf file i made, and hosted somewhere else.

Ive been learning about addEventListeners which is a command in actionscript for adding interactivity.

So to make this SWF I took part of the still image i created for the night out project and imported it into flash, added it to the library as a movieclip. i then created an instance of it on the main timeline. i then went inside the movieclip timeline and added the animation using the motionediter in flash, creating different values for the saturation and position making it ‘shake’ and change colour. i then used actionscript to make the animation only play on mouseover, and loop until mouse out (until the mouse is moved off the animation).

needless to say having never used actionscript, and barely ever using flash, this took me a while and several confusing error logs to achieve.

i made the tree layers backgrounds transparent in photoshop and then imported them as layers into after effects, made them 3d and composed them. i then added a camera and played around with different perspectives and movement of my virtual camera, different lenses, apertures, and how it created different effects and seemed to make the scene look different just through the camera. some of the movement made the scene seem quite creepy so i went with it, added an animated bird with the puppet tool and added some grain to give it an old film look. i was just looking at creating a feel and a style and exploring how this can be done with the software. i really enjoy using after effects and i find it relatively easy to use, however i think it lends itself to certain styles and purposes, so i am not going to use it for the night out project. also in using software i havent used before i think i will learn more.
